21 March and yes, it is Spring again! The days are getting longer and during the beautiful sunny weather, you suddenly see many blossoms on trees and bushes. Daffodils and crocuses suddenly appear. It's an instantaneous joy to see the landscape slowly take on colour.
Flowers are the most given present in Holland. It literally brightens people up. The word fleur is derived from the French word for flower.
Flowers have their own language. Some flowers have been assigned a certain symbolism. For example, the Lotus. Already in ancient Egypt the flower was declared sacred. The flower was a symbol of light (the sun), because the petals open during the day and at night the calyx is closed.
Flowers make us happy! The Daffodil often shows itself in golden yellow and that is heart-warming. Seemingly a simple flower? No, absolutely not... The Daffodil is very vain, because in the heart of the calyx the flower shows a "trumpet".
Flowers can be rare. For example, the wild snake's head sometimes takes 8 years to bloom.
Furthermore, the Liseron is romantic to look at, but is actually a little dangerous because of its encirclement with other plants.
The Tulip is a Dutch icon. A beloved flower in colours you would not believe possible.
